On the mace, the image of the Zia sun symbol is shown on the top of the dome. The inscription "FORTY-FOURTH ARMY BAND" encircles the ring. Displayed on the front and back sides, a morion (helmet) bearing a coiled rattlesnake resting upon a wreath; around the base a stylized mountain range.
